Rand stared at Caroline, taking in what she had just told him. “You lied to me,” he retorted sharply. “First you told me that you didn’t have a conversation with him, now you’re telling me that you did. Your story is starting to fall apart. You need to tell me the whole truth. Was this man stalking you? Did he bother you in any way? Why did you go to his apartment and threaten him and then kill him?” Rand asked, his voice rose in anger.

“You’ve got to believe me! I did not go to this man’s apartment!” Caroline said, her voice getting louder.

“If the man stalked you, bothered you, or abused you in any way, we can help get your sentence reduced. It would go a long way in the courtroom if you confessed and came clean with this now,” Rand said, his voice still raised.

“I have nothing to confess,” Caroline replied forcefully.

“How the hell did his cellphone end up in your SUV?” Rand’s anger burst at her.

Caroline recoiled at his temper. Then she snapped at him, her voice equally angry, “I don’t know how it got there!”

“Well, you apparently had it in your SUV all along.”

“I don’t know how that cellphone got in my vehicle,” Caroline stated emphatically, slamming both hands on the table.

“It would be in your best interest if you confess or fill in the gaps of your story. You will be going down for murder one and a very long prison sentence.” Rand jerked forward in his chair and looked into her eyes. His eyes were dark and angry.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway - Keys to Her Heart by Lacey Wolfe

SOR Keys to Her Heart VBT Banner

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Love happens when you least expect it.

Officer Cody Duncan gave up on love years ago. Or so he thought.  He was content with his quiet solitary life, until a clumsy waitress spilled hot coffee on his pants and turned his world upside down. Suddenly, there’s a new heat in his life, filled with cravings for things he once pushed aside.

Lily Jenkins’ busy life as a single mom and primary caretaker for her elderly mother leaves little time for herself. Struggling to adjust to a new life in a small town, her focus is too easily derailed by the gorgeous man she accidentally spilled hot coffee on. Knowing she has too much already going on, Lily vows to keep Cody at a distance, even though she craves him in ways she never thought possible.
Their attempts at simple friendship continually fail as they soon discover an untamable fire between them whenever they are alone together.

Seeing a life he never imagined for himself, will Cody have the patience to wait for the woman of his dreams? Will Lily finally let go and give Cody the Keys to Her Heart?
SORM excerpt

As they walked back up the main road in town, Cody couldn’t shake the feeling Lily was holding back on him. From the outside, she seemed to have her life together. She was strong and confident, but something told him there was a story she wasn’t sharing. He wouldn’t push. If, and when, she was ready, he’d listen. He didn’t plan on going anywhere.

God, was he already thinking about the long haul with her? He was in trouble, and he hadn’t even kissed her yet. He’d definitely thought about it, though.

“You’ve been such a gentleman showing me around.” She tugged at the hem of her dress. Her hot, sexy, want-to-rip-it-off-her dress.

“Who better than me?” he flirted.

“I can’t think of anyone.” She stared at him. Her long red curls begged him to touch them. Were they as soft as they looked?

“We should do this again.” His heart raced as he waited for her response.

“Yes.” She stepped back a little, increasing the space between them. “My evening schedule is kind of hectic. So daytime is best for me.”

“I understand. You have your son to care for.”

Her gaze darted away and she sucked in her bottom lip. “Yeah. Speaking of which, he’ll be home before long, and I should be there to get him off the bus.”

He hated that their time together was ending. “Okay. Let me walk you to your car.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I want to.”

She gave him the cute little grin he found himself adoring already. Of course, she’d parked near Luigi’s, which had them to her car too quickly.

Lily leaned against the side and he could practically see the wheels turning in her head. Was she debating the kiss as much as he was? Oh yeah, he wanted to explore those sweet lips of hers, but not yet. Not until he could spend a good few minutes with her.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway - Executing Justice by Imogene Nix

Genre: Science Fiction/Futuristic Romance
The Reunion Trilogy, Book 3
The end game is looming, but whether the last of the Ito family will find his happily ever after is in the balance.
Tomi Ito must deal with the knowledge that the woman he’s loved forever, Gillian Edgemont, thinks he’s abandoned her in her time of need. But when he’s abducted, she’s there to help save him.
Gillian is running from the wreck of her life and the unrequited passion she holds for her former boss, Senator Tomi Ito. When he follows her to Vega II so does the danger that’s been dogging the Ito family.
As the finale looms, does it include a future for Tomi and Gillian? Or will it all turn to ashes?
SORM excerpt
Even as Gillian scanned the view, she noted that the pilot slipped a headpiece over his ear so he could communicate with the rescue worker. She wished she knew who was in the water, but his words were too low to overhear.
In the main cabin, she could hear bangs and groaning equipment. The scene on the view screen changed to the belly of their craft. She could see a man dangling in the air, and in the water, someone clutching another person. She said a silent prayer that one of them was Tomi.
Tension rose in the cabin, thick and heady. The rescuer plunged into the cold waters. A harness was handed over and gripped while the officer dealt with the other. From the movements, Gillian could tell that the person was panicked. Slowly, the first harness rose and she could tell it wasn’t Tomi, as the person had long hair and bare legs. She sucked in a breath as the second person in the water was assisted into another harness, then he or she rose with the rescuer. Even though she craned, the outline of the officer obscured her view. She sucked in an unsteady breath, clenched her hands together, and waited.
When Gillian was sure she could last no longer, the door opened with a bang. She quickly looked up, anticipation sizzling along every nerve ending.
There in the doorway was Tomi, wet and shivering, but very much alive. In his arms was a woman, bedraggled and dirty, but he held her so tenderly that any hopes or dreams Gillian harbored melted away. There was never any hope for her and the feelings that burned in her chest.
Without a word, Gillian turned away and fought the sting of tears in her eyes. She noted the sounds of joyous reunion between brother and sister, but she kept her gaze averted, to give them privacy, she piously told herself. When the pilot ordered them strapped in, she breathed a silent sigh of relief. She knew that this torture, him being so close but now forever so far away, would come to an end sooner rather than later.
Just as she was sure she’d be spared, Tomi spoke. “Gillian, thank you for coming to find me.”
The clog of tears filled her throat, but she managed to croak, “It was nothing.”
“It means a lot to me.” He reached out and touched her hand, and she bit back the gasp that rose.
Nerves in her hand jumped and thrummed, but she ignored them. “Honestly, I’m just pleased I could help.” She glanced in his direction, taken aback by the directness in his gaze before the woman beside him shuddered. He scooped her closer and Gillian turned away.

An oppressed werewolf princess…

In a world where the werewolf species is rapidly declining, breeding the strongest of the purebred bloodlines is of the utmost importance. But when Victoria Bonvalet is ordered by her alpha father to partake in this breeding program, she rebels by fleeing her home and the protection of the pack.

Though she expects to be found eventually, she plans to hide and run until that happens. What she never expects is the attraction she would feel for a one thousand year old vampire lord with a thirst for adventure.

A vampire with nothing to lose…

Tristan Garland has traveled the world, fought in wars, and encountered many enemies over the years he has existed as a vampire, but even his experience as an undead could not have prepared him for the deep magnetism that lures him to his newest neighbor. Though she’s a werewolf, and by law his enemy, Tristan finds in Victoria the desire to continue existing in a world he’s come to loath over the years.

Enemies in the eyes of their own kind but hopelessly in love, Victoria and Tristan must find a way to be together without causing a war between bitter adversaries. But will their refusal to part ways provoke their kinds into a conflict unlike any they had seen before?

Book Spotligtht - Ghost by Dani-Lyn Alexander

SOR Ghost VBT Banner
Genre: Paranormal Romance

After a head injury, Jess begins to see things she can’t explain. She starts to wonder if she’s hallucinating, losing her mind completely…or if something far worse might be happening.

SORM excerpt

A scream erupted from her throat, dragging her forcefully from the nightmare that held her captive. Heart pounding, chest heaving, she rolled over and reached to pull the pillow over her head. The lingering fear from the nightmare morphed into sheer terror when she realized she was no longer lying in her warm, cozy bed, but on a cold, hard surface. She froze, too afraid to move, and opened her eyes just enough to study her surroundings.

“What the..?” Although she laid in total darkness, Jess knew exactly where she was. The bumps and crevices of the rough terra cotta tile, combined with the lingering scent of potpourri, were unmistakable. How had she gotten here? Why were there no lights? Pain slammed through her head when she tried to sit up. Nausea threatened to overwhelm her, and she forced the bile back down. She lowered herself to the floor, gently resting her cheek against the cool tile. Maybe she could just lay here for the rest of the night.

Reality intruded, and she knew she had to stand. She moved slowly, pulling her knees to her chest and resting her forehead against them. Taking slow breaths and tentatively rubbing at the tender spot on her temple, she was surprised when her hand came away sticky. “Ugh…what’s on my hand?”

She struggled to her feet and slapped her hands against the wall to stop the room from spinning. Once the world came into focus, she padded to the kitchen, hoping to rid herself of the coppery taste that was threatening to choke her.

Pain exploded behind her eyes and took her breath away when she turned on the light. She grabbed a clean towel from the drawer, filled it with ice, and pressed it against her throbbing head. Elbows on the kitchen counter, she leaned into the cold of her impromptu ice pack. Numbness prickled her skin.

How had she ended up on the floor? How long had she lain there? Had she fallen? Passed out? The throbbing pain made thinking difficult. Aspirin. Aspirin would help. She reached for the bottle in the cabinet and then filled a glass with cool water. When she raised her head to drink, she caught sight of her reflection in the window above the sink.

With darkness pressing heavily against the glass, she was able to see herself quite clearly. The disheveled woman who met her gaze startled her. Her short, dark hair stuck out in all directions but, when she tried to run her fingers through the rat’s nest in an effort to tame it, she met resistance. The sticky mess had already started to dry, leaving her hair full of knots. She’d bled worse than she’d thought. The pink t-shirt she’d worn to bed was also blood splattered.

“What happened to me? Was I sleepwalking?” She sipped her water, but dumped the remainder down the sink when her stomach rebelled. Her heart pounded in her chest, keeping time with the throbbing in her temples. There has to be a logical explanation for this. Did I get up to go to the bathroom and trip? That didn’t make sense, even to her own confused mind. When her gaze returned to the window, she couldn’t fight the fear that clutched at her throat.

“Oh, my…” she told the woman who stared back from the window, but left the sentence unfinished when she caught movement from behind her in the reflection. Instinctively ducking to the side, Jess turned to find the room empty. Her heart thundered in her already constricted chest, her breath coming in short, shallow gasps. Tremors shook her body as she struggled desperately to fight off the impending panic attack. The hammering of her heart made it hard for her to hear anything else, but she strained her ears to listen.

The kitchen doorway led to the small living room directly across from the window. Had someone been moving through the room? Was that how she’d ended up crumpled on the floor at the bottom of the stairs? Had she been pushed?

Short Story Review: Magic In Memphis - Yule (A Celtic Tapestry Collection, Book 6) by Hunter S. Jones

The wheel of the year turns, bringing the joy of spring, the warmth of summer, the richness of autumn, and the merriment of winter. But eight Celtic festivals link these seasons together, bringing with them romance, lust, danger, and even magic. From a city under threat from night-time creatures at Ostara, to a selkie caught by the light of the Lughnasadh moon, to a writer caught in the flames of a fiery goddess at Imbolc.

Eight authors have come together to give their own twist on these festivals, weaving each story with a blend of myth, magic, and contemporary telling…to create A Celtic Tapestry.

My Thoughts

Victoria thought the Christmas party would be just like any other, until she meets James Wellington. He has a girlfriend back in the UK, but the two can't resist each other. For Victoria, it's love at first sight, but James makes it clear that despite their mutual attraction, his life is already mapped out and he can't change fate. But fate, and a little Yule magic, have a way of making miracles happen.

Magic in Memphis is one hot short story. The chemistry between James and "Vix" actually had my glasses steaming up, but I also loved how the author weaved in elements of the pagan tradition  along with the romance. I enjoyed the back story about Victoria's grandmother teaching her the old ways and her beautiful Yule rituals just as much as I rooted for James and Victoria to find a way to be together.  This is one novella that proves there is more than one way to weave a little magic.

About the Author

I'm Miranda Stork, and I'm addicted. Addicted to writing and reading books, anyway. And chocolate, but that's another issue - no interventions, please.

I live in the middle of a forest in North Yorkshire, spending my spare time as the wild woman of the woods, scaring small children and upsetting the sheep. On the days that I feel like being civilized, or I haven't got any unicorns to ride, I sit down and pour the tumbling thoughts in my head out onto digital paper. Mainly the thoughts and characters come out in paranormal form, with a good smattering of romance, because everyone likes a good cuddle. But you can also find strong elements of thrillers, myths, and even dystopia amongst the pages of all my novels. I've wanted to write books ever since I first realised that fairytales were not the newspapers of the fairy kingdom, but the imaginings of actual people who wanted to tell fancy made-up stories to other people. From that moment, I was hooked.

Why do I write? Good question. It might be easier to just keep the stories in my head, or even just to write them for myself. But I want to share them. There is no greater delight for a writer than when a reader devours your book, and declares, "Something in that novel resonated with me. And I want MORE." So grab your lucky clover and a baseball bat (there's some nasty paranormal creatures where we're going), eat the cookie with 'eat me' tagged on it, and enter through the tiny door into the world of Miranda Stork.

My Thoughts

Rebecca doesn't really believe in past lives, but she agrees to let her Wiccan friend do a regression on her anyway. She never expected it to work, but she suddenly finds herself in a Viking village, witnessing a traumatic event she's sure can't be anything more than her overactive writer's imagination. But long after she comes out of the mediation, she's still seeing one of the men from her regression, as well as a shadowy figure she's certain means her harm. She can't blame it on her imagination when the electric goes haywire and she finds herself in very real danger.  Somehow, Rebecca must delve back into her past in order to save her future.

Shadows in the Darkness was an amazing read. I loved everything about it, from the brilliant detail of the guided mediation in the first chapter to the surprising ending.  This paranormal romance has some steamy scenes, but it also delves into the pagan traditions surrounding Samhain, the time when the veil between worlds in thinnest. I enjoyed all the many layers of this story and look forward to reading more works from this author. I already have a few more loaded onto the kindle!

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sometimes love really is worth fighting for, but picking your battles isn’t so easy—especially when lives are at stake.

Personal tragedy and the loss of both parents at a young age made Ariela Perrine cross self-sacrificing hero types off her datable list. But Ariela is literally swept off her feet when an accident brings her face to face with an unforgettable pair of blue eyes, a playful smile, and an overly affectionate dog.

Oh yes, journalist Dylan Bond makes her sizzle, but dare she risk it? After all, he’s just returned from covering conflicts around the globe. With his assurance he’ll be handling domestic stories from now on, Ariela’s weak resistance crumbles and their relationship intensifies at a dizzying speed. Then an unexpected phone call lures Dylan back to Iraq and he falls off the radar. His disappearance will test them both in ways neither expected. Will it bring them closer or destroy their fragile peace forever?

SORM excerpt
Dylan chuckled and drew his hand out from under her hair, caressing her cheek before returning it to the wheel and signaling his turn.

Ariela had described the unsettled feeling Dylan gave her as a tornado, but now she wasn’t sure that was the right comparison. A tornado was loud and violent, certainly, but after careful consideration, that seemed too dry. No, this was closer to a tsunami or hurricane churning through her insides because there was moisture, a great deal of very unmistakable moisture to go along with the roaring in her ears and the rumbling in her chest.

As they climbed the staircase, her footsteps felt springy, buoyant on the treads. It was as if her legs were pogo sticks. Did he feel any of this? Could he tell she was lost in a maelstrom he’d set off?

Inside the apartment, Dylan allowed her just enough time to hang up her purse before he caught her around the waist and turned her in his arms. There was something in his eyes, those luscious, blueberry eyes, that sent tension vibrating along her spine. For a fraction of a second, he simply looked at her with just a hint of a smile. Then he moved on her, decisively, closing the space between them.

Ariela looped her arms behind his neck and held on, perfectly ready and willing to be plundered. Her feet left the floor at the same time their lips connected and suddenly they were collapsing on the couch. Dylan’s hand protected her head down to the cushions. That simple, thoughtful act undid her. Ariela kissed him long and hard, rewarding his consideration.

Finally coming up for air, she nuzzled along his jaw. “You smell fantastic.”

“So do you,” he growled, diving at her throat.

“My perfume wore off hours ago.”

“I know.”

That was it—she was his if he wanted her. What an easy conquest she’d turned out to be. She couldn’t even summon up disappointment in herself. The reality was, she’d never wanted anything, anyone more, and it was no use fighting it.

Dylan pulled his head back, his lust for her unmistakable in his smoldering eyes. “Are we on the same page here?”

She cracked a little smile. “God, I hope so.”

With a groan, he crushed his lips to hers and Ariela felt a slight sting against her teeth. Then his tongue ventured out and soothed the pain away. Now his kiss mellowed from one of heated urgency to a calmer, solid claim. He had a right to be here, to possess her, because she’d granted it. Ariela wanted to feel Dylan’s hard body against hers, but she realized he wasn’t a guy to take without invitation. Even now, if she changed her mind and asked him to stop, he’d do it, no matter how difficult it was to pull back. Confidence in that made her want him even more. This would be an utter surrender, an open agreement with an occupying force.

She fumbled with the buttons on his shirt while he held himself over her, working her top up with one hand.

He looked down, grinning at her impatience. “Just clarifying something here. You’re not interested in me?”

“How many times do I have to tell you? At this time, you’re on my banned substances list.” Ariela swept his shirt apart and ran her hands over his chest, squeezing his yummy pecs.
